Part 3 - Eavesdropping
By that evening, Kitty was sitting up in bed. The IVs were gone, and though still weak, she was feeling better every hour. Everyone had scattered for the night, Wolverine curiously getting along well with Red, of all people. She smiled as she heard footsteps approaching. Her smile faltered a bit when Bobby entered her room - she'd been hoping for someone else.
"Hey Kitty-cat, how're you feeling?" He took the chair next to the bed, scooting it close.
She smiled weakly. "I've been better. How are things back at the mansion?"
He shrugged. "Same as always. It took a while for everyone to adjust to the Professor and Jean and Scott being gone, but I think we've all adapted."
"That's good," she replied. "So... how's Rogue?" She knew as soon as she asked that whatever the answer, she didn't care, as long as he was happy.
Bobby reached over and took her hand, much to her surprise. "They were wrong about the cure, Kitty. It wasn't permanent. It completely wore off about six months ago. She took it really hard, and ended up leaving again. Nobody's heard from her since."
In the hall, Myers approached Kitty's room, his mind made up to stop hiding his feelings. He'd even run out and bought flowers, and he carried them nervously. He stopped to check his reflection in the glass of a door, smoothing his hair with a shaky hand. As he got to the door, the sound of Bobby's voice stopped him.
"I made a mistake. I haven't been able to stop thinking about you since you left. When Storm told me that you could by dying, I knew. Please, Kitty, come back with us. Come home - and give me another chance."
Myers held his breath, his fist clenched around the flowers in his hand. Kitty was stunned, not believe what she was hearing.
"Bobby..." She took a moment to gather her thoughts. "I've been waiting so long to hear you say that."
Myers exhaled, the tiny door he'd been prepared to open in his heart slamming shut. He walked away quickly before he could hear more, throwing the flowers in a nearby trash can on his way out.
Kitty pulled her hand out of Bobby's grasp. "But it's too late. This is my home now, and these people are my family." She took a deep breath and sighed. "I can't go back with you. I've moved on... I have feelings for someone else." It was the first time she'd admitted to herself that she had feelings for John, let alone said it out loud.
Bobby just watched her for a moment, nodding mindlessly. He'd almost expected that response, but he had to try. Finally he smirked. "Please tell me it's not the red dude."
Kitty laughed, relieved. "It's not Red, I promise. He is a great guy, though."
Logan appeared in the doorway. "It's time to go, Iceman." He crossed the room and gave Kitty a fierce hug. "You take care of yourself, half-pint."
She coughed at the cloud of smoke around him. "Where have you been?"
"Me and your friend Hellboy had a little chat over a cigar or two. Don't think I'll ever understand his thing for cats... but he seems decent enough for a demon." He looked at her sternly. "He made me a promise, and I want one from you, too. No more taking risks with your life, got it?"
She smiled. "I promise, no more risks. I've learned my lesson."

Date: 2010-04-24 06:29 pm (UTC)I always figured Logan and Hellboy would get along. Except when they'd disagree. Then, there would be room-trashing arguments. XD
You write HB very well, btw! I mean, you write everyone well, but him especially. Not that I know him except from the movies, but still.
And Logan says Kitty is definitely still a kid, and will be one for at least ten more years.no subject
