“This was a good idea. Thanks for bringing us here,” Kitty said before taking another bite of pie. The sun was just starting to set and a warm breeze was blowing. It ruffled the edges of the blanket on which they sat.
“I could resist an invitation to leave cold New York for a Mediterranean picnic. And thank you for making the food. This might be the best pie I’ve ever had.”
She blushed a little and looked away, watching the sun disappear in a blaze of pink and orange. “I don’t come here very often, the place is just going to waste. Maybe I should sell it.”
He knew her well enough to know when she was trying to change the subject. “Perhaps you could just rent it out when you’re away.”
She knew he’d have a logical solution. “That’s a good idea, thanks. Here, have another piece of pie, just for being the best big brother ever.”
He shrugged shyly, but accepted the pie. “So what’s your secret for the crust? It’s so flaky, but doesn’t taste too rich.”
She shook her head. “Oh I can’t tell you that! Besides… I didn’t even make it, I got Annie to do it. She made all of this. That’s my big secret… I can’t cook, and I own a bakery!”
They both laughed. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.”
