"Something like that," she answered softly. She closed the book and set it back where she'd found it. She pulled the blanket tighter around her shoulders and watched him quietly for a few moments. He didn't seem nervous like she would have expected. He must have been overstating just how bad of a cook he was. Still, she couldn't help but want to help, even from across the room.
"Want to know a trick?" she asked, not wanting to be bossy or tell him how to do things. She waited for him to give an indication that was okay.
"You can use that measuring cup to scoop the batter out of the bowl and pour it into the pan. It's easier than pouring out of the bowl and all of the pancakes will be roughly the same size."
