"Oh, excuse me!” Mohinder said to the girl he’d just run into, not surprised as he’d had his nose buried in test results as he’d walked down the sidewalk.

“Kitty?” She barely seemed aware of what was going on. He was concerned she’d hit her head.

“Huh? Oh, hey Mohinder. Was that my fault or yours?”

As he helped her up he could smell alcohol on her. “Are you drunk, young lady? It’s 8 o’clock in the morning!”

She pulled her arms out of his hands, stumbling a little. “Maybe. I didn’t go to bed last night, I was out with the girls.” She straightened her skirt and laughed. To him, she looked suddenly very young in her school uniform. He frowned down at her.

“You can’t go to school in that condition. Come on, I’ll buy you a cup of coffee.” He put his arm around her, clearly worried, and wondering where her supposed adult supervision was.
