All work and no play? No way!
Apr. 9th, 2012 10:57 pmKitty was bored. It had been hours since she and Pete had gotten done with talking to the kid's parents. They'd seemed pretty enthusiastic, much to Kitty's surprise. Being the good parents they were, though, they wanted to leave the final decision up to their son. So Piotr had gone to the school, and Kitty had come back to the hotel to wait.
And wait. And wait. The sun was starting to set outside. She had to reach over from where she was propped up on the bed to turn on a lamp, the light of the television becoming insufficient to see the buttons on the remote control. She flipped from channel to channel, finding nothing that could hold her attention. Her thoughts kept drifting back to earlier. Napping with Piotr had been wonderful. She'd felt calmer, safer, and happier than she could remember being in years. She had almost been afraid to wake up, that she'd find it had all been a dream, and he was still dead, and she was alone.
But he had been there when she awoke, and inside she'd said a small prayer of thanks. Then she'd run to brush her teeth before he got a whiff of morning breath. It was bad enough they were sharing a hotel room, and he could probably hear everything when she used the bathroom.
Her reverie was broken by the sound of a key in the door.
"Finally! What took you so long?"
