“It’s always times like these when I think of you and I wonder if you ever think of me.”

Another day, another mission, another awkward moment heavy with unspoken words. She did as she always did once returning home - she replayed the events in her head, evaluating her performance, deciding what she could have done better, what she should do next time.

Zombies again. She hated zombies. Sneaky buggers too, not your usual groaning and stumbling, half-blind undead. She’d let her guard down and it had almost cost her. Thankfully John had been there... or maybe not so thankfully. It was because of him that she’d been distracted.

It had been so innocent. She’d tripped, and he’d helped her up. Only they hadn’t been able to stop looking at one another, and she’d been unable to let go of his hand. And that’s when the undead bastard had grabbed her ankle. He’d pulled her out of its grasp and shot it in the head before it could get any closer to them. And now all she could think about was the look on his face when he’d asked if she was okay, and how safe she’d felt with his hand around hers despite the army of evil brain-hungry zombies popping out of the ground around them.

Kitty sank down further into the bathtub, her knees popping up above the level of the water, and closed her eyes. My hero.
