Characters: Kitty Pryde & Logan/Wolverine (X-Men)
Rating: PG
Setting: X-film canon (kinda sorta)
Prompt: #13 Cake - Drabble Table
Word Count: 292
Christmas was always a big deal at the mansion. Everyone helped with the decorations, and trekking into the woods to cut down a fresh tree and mistletoe was a major excursion.
Kitty followed along, knowing she couldn’t be the only Jewish student there, but not liking to call attention to the things that made her different. She’d come to Xavier’s school to fit in – not to stand out.
She never figured out how he discovered the truth. It was a week before Christmas, and Kitty was alone in her room, lighting the first candle of her tiny menorah. The knock at her door surprised her, and she rushed to hide the evidence before responding. Logan walked in anyway, and she stood in front of the beside table trying to shield his view even though the smell of just-blown-out candle filled the room.
“Hey, kid.” He sniffed but didn’t say anything about the smell. His coat and hair still carried the snowflakes they’d gathered outside. Instead he held out a small blue box with string tied around it.
“I was in town and got this for ya.” He shuffled his feet a bit, apparently nervous at such an overt display of affection.
She took it from him with a small smile. “Thanks, Logan.” She tucked her hair behind her ear as he turned to leave.
“The other kids are watching ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ in a few minutes. You should come downstairs.”
She nodded. “I will.” He closed the door behind him, and she rapidly untied the ribbon from the box. She opened the lid and her jaw fell open. It was a miniature cake, shaped like a dreidel. Next to it was a note written in Logan’s signature scrawl.
“Happy Hanukkah, half-pint.”
