Prompt: #24 Day - Drabble Table
Word Count: 200
As the sun crept over the horizon it cast rays through the hospital room window and across Kitty’s face, waking her from sleep well earned. She yawned, still exhausted and very cranky that she’d been woken before it was absolutely necessary. She tried to remind herself that waking up all the time was something she needed to get used to, but her aching body made it hard to think.
She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and shifted her head so the sunlight wasn’t blinding her any more. Next to her bed was the hospital bassinet; next to that was Piotr, sound asleep in the recliner. One arm was outstretched, hand resting on their son’s tiny chest as it rose and fell. He was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen with his chubby cheeks and full head of dark hair. It seemed unreal that he had come from her – from them - and that he was theirs to keep and love and raise.
She watched her boys sleeping and decided she wasn’t angry with the sun for waking her up after all. If it hadn’t she would have missed the beginning of their first day as a family.
