Unreachable, at least when he wasn't on a mission, wasn't something Steve ever was. Even in the middle of the night as it was. There was no telling when he'd be needed of course, and even if he should be asleep, he rarely was. After all the time he'd spent asleep on ice? He rarely felt like he needed it anymore, and so most nights once he turned out most of the lights he found himself sitting at his kitchen table with cooling cup of coffee and a sketchbook. Something that relaxed him, recharged him in a different way.
So he picked up the phone after only two rings, a smile on his face that was clear in his voice. Nothing made his day the way talking to Kate did, except for maybe actually seeing her. He really owed a few favors for the two of them being set up in the first place, was thrilled with the way things were going between them so far. The connection from the very start had been clear and had only gotten stronger the more they talked, every time they had seen each other since.
