The glimpse of movement she'd caught wasn't a trick. Steve had been on his feet the moment she started to cough, the search for his shoes shifting to a look out the window when she managed to tell him she was outside. And the second he confirmed that with his own eyes, he was headed out the door, shoed be damned.
So someone out in the world might see Captain America looking a little less than put together, so his socks might get ruined. What did that matter when the woman he cared about needed him?
"Hang on one second," was all he said, simply, a clear agreement and he was already taking the stairs down to the street a few at a time. His phone stayed in hand, though, and he wouldn't hang up until he was bursting out onto the street, expression painted entirely with determined concern. Not until he was sure that she'd seen him coming. Only then did Steve drop it into his pocket and hurry down the sidewalk to her side, immediately reaching to support her.
He just had to hope she wouldn't end up phasing right through him accidentally.
"Are you hurt?" Of course that was his first concern. If she needed medical attention, he'd get it for her, even if it wound up nothing more than his own first aid kit.
