It really was only a little pretending. Playing up what he knew was bad. He could feed himself, sure, but his taste was questionable at best. But poking fun at himself was plenty worth it if it made her smile. The surprise in her expression at the realization that he’d put in a bit of effort for her, though, was rewarding in its own way.
“Yes, actually. That’s exactly what I did. Had to keep myself busy somehow.” And more than that he wanted to give her something she’d actually enjoy. At the very least not butcher her favorite food. But he had needed something to keep himself busy. He wasn’t going to leave her alone and he wasn’t a sit around the house sort of guy. Practicing pancakes has been good for him too. “If you want omelets, that’ll take a day at least. Two if you want it presentable.”
As it was he could present slightly overdone scrambled eggs.
