Characters: Kitty Pryde, Dana Scully, Fox Mulder, Will Mulder
Setting: Shades of Gray!Verse
Prompt: "My Love" by the Crash Kings
Will and Mulder waited outside the courthouse. Will was impatient, running in circles around the fountain, while Mulder was content to people watch.
Inside the judge's chambers, Kitty and Dana signed the final paperwork. With a swift bang of his gavel, months of work were realized. "By the power vested in me by the State of New York, I hereby declare this adoption finalized. Dana Scully, you are now the proud parent of Katherine Anne Scully."
Sure, it was only three months until Kitty's eighteenth birthday. The point of the adoption wasn't to ensure she'd be cared for - Dana, Mulder and Will had already been doing that. It was a healing for all of them, a way of formally recognizing what they'd all realized they felt in their hearts.
Kitty and Dana stepped out of the front doors of the courthouse and joined their male counterparts waiting outside. Will ran up to them with a smile. "Is it done?" he asked. Dana nodded, then smiled at Mulder. Will threw his arms around Kitty's waist. "Now you're my big sister!"
Mulder put an arm around the girl's shoulders, taking Dana's hand with his spare one. "Let's go home."
