Kitty’d fallen asleep on the couch, a pile of crumpled up paper around her, the pen dangling from her hand.

Kelsie placed a blanket over her and started picking up the papers. She couldn’t resist the urge to read one before putting it in the trash.

“Claire,

There’s so much I should have told you before you left. Part of me says you already know, but I have to tell you anyway, just to make sure.

I never dreamed I’d be lucky enough to fall in love with my best friend. After what my parents did to me, I didn’t feel I deserved love again. I was ashamed of my ability, and I thought I would be alone for the rest of my life. You changed all that, you gave me hope again.

I’m not giving up that hope. You may be going to him now, but I will wait for you. You will always have my heart, and I’ll wait for the day you come back to me. Even if I have to pretend to be your friend, I will always love you. Always and forever.”

Kelsie brushed away a tear, then finished picking up, hoping that someday someone would love her that much.
