Kitty clutched her very pregnant belly. “John, it’s time.”

He jumped out of his chair. “It’s time? Are you sure?”

She glowered at him. “Trust me, the puddle I just called maintenance about says it’s time.” He rushed into the bedroom closet and retrieved the bag she’d had packed for over 6 weeks.

“Okay, let’s go.” As they walked down the hallway, stopping every so often when a contraction hit her, the sound of her groaning drew attention. By the time they got to the elevator everyone was in tow. Just as John pressed the ‘up’ button the whole place went completely dark. After a few seconds emergency lights came on, revealing a very unhappy Kitty.

“Must be a power outage,” Abe said. “You’ll never make it up all those stairs in your condition, Kitty. Luckily I’ve been reading about human childbirth, and I believe I can deliver your child here quite safely.” Red nodded in agreement, seeming to think that was a good idea. Jack and Liz looked like they were trying hard not to laugh.

“Oh, hell no! I want a real hospital, with real doctors, and....” She stopped as another contraction forced her to bend forward again, both arms holding her stomach. When it had passed she looked at them. “And real drugs! I want an epidural and I want it NOW!”

“Sweetheart,” John said, holding her hand. Well, letting her squeeze the living hell out of his hand. “Abe is right, maybe you should consider letting him help.”

She gave him a look that could kill. “John, I am not having the first thing our baby sees be THAT!” She gestured towards Abe and Red. “No offense guys.”

“None taken,” they replied in unison.
